Congratulations to Brenda Mintun!
Ms. Mintun has been selected by the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association as a 2019-2020 Outstanding Service Award Honoree.
In addition to her responsibilities as an Instructional Coach, Brenda serves as the Bluejay Congress Advisor. Each year on Homecoming Wednesday, Brenda organizes and mobilizes a community service learning project involving over five hundred students and staff. The activities provide volunteer service to senior citizens, to our veterans, in our neighborhoods, at our parks, in our schools, and throughout our downtown community. The uniqueness of this activity during Homecoming week, demonstrates a commitment to our community and an emphasis on education beyond the classroom walls. Numerous lessons may be learned by our students from volunteer service. Among these lessons are the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Brenda is co-chairperson for our community’s Veteran’s Day Celebration, organizing the event with Bluejay Congress, the Student Activities Department, and our local chapters of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This activity brings together our students and our community each November 11th.
Fred Rogers stated,
“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes. Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Brenda Mintun’s life of service, her belief in our students, and her commitment to the community of Perry, Iowa helping all of us to become the best versions of ourselves, qualify her as an IHSADA Service Award Honoree.
