The mission of the Perry Instrumental Music Department is to provide student musicians with a balanced and well-rounded music education. The Perry Instrumental Music Department strives to provide students with a positive, music-focused curriculum that will enrich and broaden their education in Perry. We will work together to create an environment that will embody three main values: family, responsibility, and servant leadership.
The Perry High School Instrumental Music Program has a long history of excellence. The program consistently receives superior ratings at contests. The bands are currently split into the Blue Brigade, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, and PHS Jazz. Students also have the opportunity to participate in The Perry Band Olympics, various honor bands, and other band activities throughout the year.
Each year, the Perry Band Olympics involves approximately 1,000 students representing 10-12 schools. The contest includes an elite panel of judges brought in from the music programs of the universities and colleges across the state. Judges listen to students perform and give verbal/written feedback to every solo/ensemble. The Perry Band Olympics is an event sanctioned yearly by the Iowa High School Music Association.
